Dear Resident As we approach British Summer Time and the evenings become lighter, we often see an increase in certain types of crime, particularly opportunistic offences. With more people spending time outdoors, it’s a good opportunity to take a few simple steps to help keep yourself, your family, and your property safe.
Here are some practical crime prevention tips:
• Ensure all doors and windows are locked, even when you’re at home or in the garden • Double-check that side gates, sheds, and garages are secure, especially overnight • Don’t leave valuables on display in vehicles – remove items where possible or keep them out of sight • Take extra care when parking in public places or beauty spots, which can be targeted during warmer months • Secure bikes with a good quality lock and, if possible, store them out of sight • Keep garden tools and equipment locked away, as these can be used to gain access to properties • Consider installing outdoor lighting, alarms, or CCTV to act as a deterrent • If you’re going away or spending longer periods out, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property
